Geopolitics and Security Alliances

India and Myanmar strengthen defense ties with annual dialogue.

India and Myanmar have enhanced their strategic ties through the Second Annual Defence Dialogue held in Naypyitaw, emphasizing military training, capacity building, and post-earthquake assistance. The discussions, led by India’s Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Myanmar’s Chief of Armed Forces (Training), Major General Kyaw Ko Htike, underscored the importance of cultural goodwill visits. Prime Minister Narendra Modi previously met Myanmar’s Senior General Min Aung Hlaing during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, reiterating India’s commitment to supporting Myanmar’s developmental needs and fostering regional cooperation under India’s Act East policy. This meeting reflects India’s proactive approach to strengthening bilateral ties and promoting stability in the region, which is vital for security and economic collaborations in Southeast Asia.
