HAL Chief Confirms 80% ToT Mandate in F414 Engine Talks
The Chief of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has reaffirmed the Indian government’s commitment to securing an 80% Transfer of Technology (ToT) in the ongoing negotiations with GE Aerospace for the co-production of F414 jet engines, crucial for India’s next-generation fighter aircraft, including the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). This landmark deal, a significant outcome of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the US, aims to enhance India’s self-reliance in defense manufacturing and reduce dependency on foreign suppliers. Despite complexities surrounding Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) involving third-party vendors, HAL is actively collaborating with GE to ensure comprehensive technology transfer. This agreement’s successful finalization will not only bolster India’s military capabilities but also strengthen its defense manufacturing ecosystem, marking a pivotal step towards indigenization and modernization of the armed forces.
