GTRE Proposes Su-30 MKI for Testing Indigenous Aero-Engines

In a strategic initiative to enhance India’s indigenous defense capabilities, the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) has proposed utilizing two Indian Air Force (IAF) Su-30 MKI aircraft as flying test beds for the accelerated testing and certification of indigenous aero-engines. This proposal aims to facilitate the integration of indigenous components into programs like the Tejas Mk-2 and the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative for self-reliance in defense manufacturing. The use of the Su-30 MKI, equipped with advanced instrumentation, will allow for real-time data collection, promoting efficient validation processes and ensuring that indigenous systems meet the stringent requirements of modern air combat. This development underscores India’s commitment to bolstering its defense industrial base while reducing dependence on foreign technology.
