India Boosts Defense Self-Reliance with New Torpedo and Tejas Engines

India is advancing its defense self-reliance with the imminent production of the Advanced Light Weight Torpedo (ALWT) by Bharat Dynamics Limited, having successfully completed user trials with the Navy. This torpedo, essential for countering growing submarine threats in the Indian Ocean, aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Additionally, the supply of engines for the indigenous Tejas fighter aircraft is reportedly improving, with GE committed to delivering eight engines by year-end. This is crucial for the Indian Air Force, which seeks to bolster its fleet amidst current squadron shortages. Strengthening these capabilities underscores India’s strategic focus on enhancing its defense preparedness in a rapidly evolving regional security environment.
