Lucknow woman honors her Vir Chakra awardee husband’s bravery from 1965 war.

Sixty years after the 1965 India-Pakistan war, Vijay Kumari of Lucknow recalls the bravery of her late husband, Major Dhirendra Singh of the Kumaon Regiment, who lost his leg to an enemy mine yet heroically silenced enemy machine guns, earning him the Vir Chakra. Kumari reflected on the emotional toll and pride stemming from her husband’s courage, which inspired their sons to join the Army. Despite the challenges of living post-injury, Singh’s determination exemplified resilience and leadership, echoed in his commendation for valor.
