BDL to Increase Astra MkI Missile Production for IAF's Tejas Mk1A

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has announced a significant increase in the production of the Astra MkI missile, ramping up to 25 units per year with plans to double this output to meet the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) demands for the Tejas Mk1A fleet. This initiative, part of India’s push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing, reflects confidence in the missile’s capabilities, especially as the IAF aims to operate nearly 220 Tejas Mk1A jets over the next six to seven years. The integration of an indigenous RF AESA radar into the Tejas Mk1A further enhances its combat effectiveness, underscoring India’s commitment to modernizing its aerial defense systems. BDL’s strategic production increase aligns with the IAF’s modernization efforts, signaling a robust future for India’s indigenous defense capabilities.
