China's 300th J-20 Fighter: Urgent Challenge for Indian Air Force

China’s induction of its 300th Chengdu J-20 stealth fighter underscores its advancing aerospace capabilities and poses significant challenges for the Indian Air Force (IAF). While the J-20 showcases China’s ability to produce fifth-generation fighters at scale, the IAF’s modernization is marked by a cautious approach, focusing on the delayed Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and the proposed acquisition of 114 Dassault Rafales. Though the Rafale enhances India’s air combat capacity, it lacks the full stealth features of fifth-generation platforms like the J-20. A balanced strategy, potentially incorporating the Russian Su-57E alongside the Rafale, could bolster India’s deterrent capability, addressing concerns over regional air superiority amid ongoing border tensions with China.
