Indian Army Accelerates Radar Procurement After Drone Breaches
In response to the vulnerabilities exposed during Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army is accelerating the procurement of advanced air defence radars to enhance its capabilities against low-flying aerial threats, particularly drones. This initiative aims to address gaps in the current air defence infrastructure along the northern and western borders, following the breach of Indian airspace by numerous Pakistani drones. The Army plans to acquire Low Level Light Weight Radars and Air Defence Fire Control Radar-Drone Detectors, which will improve detection and tracking of aerial objects with small radar cross-sections. This development underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its air defence systems amid evolving threats and reflects the broader strategic imperative to maintain a robust security posture in the region.
