Residents vacate Chander Kunj Army Towers in Kochi after AWHO rent payment.
Residents of the Chander Kunj Army Towers in Kochi are vacating their apartments following the Army Welfare Housing Organisation’s (AWHO) payment of advance rent, mandated by the Kerala High Court. The court’s interim order required AWHO to deposit six months’ rent due to safety concerns stemming from structural issues in the towers. While 152 apartment owners are currently eligible for compensation, further clarifications in court may increase this number. The District Collector has directed swift demolition procedures and emphasized the need for AWHO to expedite approvals for constructing new buildings, highlighting the government’s proactive stance on resident safety and urban development.
