SC Criticizes Discriminatory Criteria for Women Army Officers

The Supreme Court has expressed concern over the discriminatory criteria used for granting permanent commissions to women Army officers, highlighting the unfair treatment compared to their male counterparts despite identical training and operational postings. The court questioned the validity of differentiating evaluation standards based on gender, emphasizing that women in critical positions, such as those in UN Peacekeeping Missions and border areas, received non-criteria assessments. This situation reflects a conservative mindset within certain senior ranks of the armed forces, which undermines the capabilities of female officers and calls for a reevaluation of gender bias in military appointments, aligning with the court’s earlier rulings favoring gender equality in the defense forces.
