HAL to Sign Rs 66,000 Cr Deal for 97 Tejas Mk1A Jets, Boosting Self-Reliance
India is set to finalize a Rs 66,000 crore contract for 97 Tejas Mk-1A jets with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in October 2025, following the delivery of the first two aircraft from an earlier order. This deal, crucial for the Indian Air Force’s modernization, will enhance domestic production capabilities and aims to boost indigenization in defense. HAL plans to increase its annual production capacity to 24 aircraft, while weapon trials for the Tejas Mk-1A are underway to validate combat readiness. The integration of advanced systems underscores India’s commitment to reducing reliance on foreign military imports and supporting its “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.
