TKMS Seeks Government Guarantees for India's Submarine Project

Germany’s thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) seeks inter-governmental guarantees for its role in India’s ₹70,000 crore Project-75I submarine program, addressing past scandal concerns. This procurement, alongside the upcoming indigenous Project-76, is vital for modernizing India’s aging submarine fleet amid rising Chinese naval activity. The P-75I will equip the Indian Navy with advanced submarines featuring proven Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology, ensuring operational readiness. While critics argue this route may divert resources from full indigenization, proponents see it as a strategic step to enhance capabilities and foster defense ties with Germany, which is crucial for India’s maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.
