The Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) of DRDO has achieved a major milestone with the development of the Advanced Full Authority Digital Engine Control (AFADEC) system, eliminating the need for manual backup in engine control, thus enhancing reliability and safety for future aircraft. This advanced system includes features like modular architecture, dual-lane design for reliability, and integrated engine health monitoring, positioning India among a few nations with such capabilities. Supported by various Indian industry partners, AFADEC is set to benefit a diverse range of aerospace platforms, reflecting India’s growing strength in indigenous aerospace technology and its commitment to self-reliance in defense capabilities.
