India and US Near Trade Agreement, Says Ambassador Nominee Gor

India and the United States are on the verge of finalizing the first tranche of a bilateral trade agreement, expected by November 2025, as confirmed by US Ambassador nominee Sergio Gor and Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. Gor highlighted the warm relationship between the two countries despite recent tariff disputes, noting that President Trump has invited Indian commerce and trade ministers to Washington next week to advance the deal. The ongoing talks, which began in March 2025, aim to ease trade barriers and open Indian markets to American crude oil, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas, given India’s vast middle class. Both sides have expressed satisfaction with the progress amid concerns over growing Chinese expansionism, with the partnership also reinforcing strategic ties and regional stability under the Quad alliance. The proposed trade deal aims to boost bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, demonstrating the shared commitment between India and the US to strengthen economic and democratic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. This development underscores India’s pivotal role in the global landscape and its evolving strategic partnership with the US.
