INS Tamal, BrahMos-capable frigate, joins Indian Navy fleet
INS Tamal, India’s latest Talwar-class stealth frigate, has arrived at Karwar Naval Base, significantly enhancing the nation’s maritime defense capabilities. Commissioned in July 2025 in Russia, the 3,900-ton vessel is armed with the supersonic BrahMos missile and designed for anti-submarine warfare, marking a crucial addition to India’s naval fleet. Its maiden voyage showcased India’s growing naval partnerships, stopping at multiple international ports. The successful induction of Tamal, despite uncertainties due to the Russia-Ukraine war, signals India’s commitment to advancing indigenous naval manufacturing, as it transitions to self-reliance in defense platforms, concluding its reliance on foreign-built warships.
