HAL Collaborates with GE to Boost F-404 Engine Production for 180 Tejas by 2032

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is actively engaging with General Electric (GE) to boost production of the F-404 engines, crucial for the Tejas Mk1A fighter jets, after the Ministry of Defence approved an order for 97 additional aircraft. This collaboration aims to enhance India’s defense self-reliance while addressing the Indian Air Force’s modernization needs, particularly to replace aging MiG-21s. HAL plans to ramp up engine production to 30 units annually by 2028, ensuring timely delivery of the jets by 2032. The initiative underscores the growing synergy between Indian and international defense sectors, facilitating technology transfer and strengthening India’s aerospace capabilities.
