Army to review Purohit's acquittal before future decisions

The Indian Army is set to review the trial court’s judgment that acquitted Lt Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit in the Malegaon blast case before making decisions regarding his future. Purohit, who was commissioned into the Maratha Light Infantry and is currently attached to the Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa Area, is approaching retirement next year. Although he could be promoted to Colonel, his previous DV ban prevented him from obtaining necessary performance evaluations. This situation underscores the complexities of military discipline and the handling of personnel implicated in sensitive cases, reflecting the Army’s emphasis on integrity and thorough review processes in such matters.
