India to Stop Importing Warships, Boosting Indigenous Production
In a significant move towards naval self-reliance, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that India will cease importing foreign-built warships, emphasizing the commitment to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives. This declaration coincided with the commissioning of the indigenously designed INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri, enhancing the Indian Navy’s capabilities with advanced stealth features and BrahMos missiles. The decision, bolstering indigenous shipbuilding by renowned shipyards like MDL and GRSE, not only strengthens national defense but also stimulates economic growth and job creation, showcasing India’s growing expertise in producing world-class naval platforms domestically, thus marking a pivotal advancement in India’s maritime strategy.
