IAF's Success in Operation Sindoor: Strategic Use of Air Power

Air Chief Marshal A P Singh said Operation Sindoor swiftly met its objectives with precision air strikes on terror infrastructure from May 7–10, 2025, following the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, and argued that offensive air power can be decisive without escalating conflict; he added the IAF was “on song” during the May 9–10 sorties and halted once goals were achieved, while India’s air defences blunted Pakistan’s retaliatory drone and missile salvos before an understanding to cease actions on May 10. Citing lessons from the tri-service campaign, he urged a stepwise, India-specific theaterisation, proposing a Joint Planning and Coordination Centre under the Chiefs of Staff Committee in New Delhi to strengthen jointness without disrupting existing structures or importing foreign templates, favoring centralized planning with decentralized execution.
