NTPC to begin construction of 2,800 MW nuclear plant in Rajasthan.

NTPC Ltd is set to launch the construction of a 2,800 MW nuclear power plant in Banswara, Rajasthan, marking its entry into nuclear energy. This project, a joint venture with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, aims to establish four 700 MW pressurised heavy water reactors, with the first unit expected by 2031 and full completion by 2036. NTPC plans to aggressively expand its nuclear capacity, targeting an addition of 30 GW by 2047, supported by collaborations with various international consultants. India’s nuclear power capacity is projected to rise significantly, reaching 22,380 MW by 2031-32, enhancing the nation’s energy security and sustainability goals.
