Government Approves Negotiations for ₹70,000 Crore Submarine Deal
The Indian government has cleared the Defence Ministry and Mazagon Dockyards Limited to begin negotiations for a Rs 70,000 crore deal to construct six advanced submarines under Project 75 India, in collaboration with German ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. This strategic move aims to bolster India’s indigenous submarine manufacturing capabilities amid rising naval threats from China and Pakistan. The Indian Navy anticipates phasing out around 10 submarines in the next decade, necessitating timely replacements. The deal reflects a commitment to enhancing India’s defense readiness and industrial prowess, emphasizing the importance of self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
