HAL Plans Increased Tejas MkII Production for IAF Orders
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is poised to increase Tejas MkII fighter jet production, anticipating orders exceeding 200 units to modernize the Indian Air Force (IAF). With an initial commitment of 120 jets by 2031, the MkII features advanced capabilities, including a GE F414 engine and indigenous Uttam AESA radar, essential for replacing aging fleets of MiG-29UPG, Mirage-2000, and Jaguar aircraft. HAL aims for an annual production rate of 24 jets initially, scaling to 30, leveraging successful Tejas Mk1A production frameworks. This initiative not only strengthens IAF’s air combat capabilities but also enhances India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem, supporting job creation and technological advancements.
