Taliban Official: US Deal for Bagram Base 'Not Possible

An Afghan Taliban official declared that negotiations for the US to regain control of the Bagram air base are “not possible,” following US President Donald Trump’s remarks suggesting such a deal could occur. Fasihuddin Fitrat, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Defense, emphasized that Afghanistan will not entertain any agreements regarding its territory, asserting that the Taliban has no interest in the base, which played a crucial role during the US-led military campaign. This development underscores the Taliban’s firm stance on sovereignty and reflects the complexities of US-Afghan relations post-US withdrawal, highlighting the challenges that remain in the region’s geopolitical landscape after the chaotic departure of NATO forces in 2021.
