India strengthens ties with Russia by opening consulates in Yekaterinburg and Kazan.
India has expanded its diplomatic presence in Russia by inaugurating two new consulates in Yekaterinburg and Kazan, as part of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit. The consulates aim to strengthen trade, technology partnerships, and cultural exchanges, particularly in heavy engineering, pharmaceuticals, and defence production. Jaishankar emphasized Yekaterinburg’s industrial importance as a gateway to Siberia and Kazan’s role as a cultural bridge between Russia and Asia, noting the potential for collaboration in various sectors. The initiative reflects India’s strategic intent to enhance regional engagement, support its sizable student community in Russia, and reinforce the enduring India-Russia partnership in a multipolar world.
