Indian Navy to Acquire Underwater Drones from Odisha Startup

A deep-tech startup from Odisha, Coratia Technologies, has secured a Rs 66-crore contract with the Indian Navy to produce indigenously developed Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROVs) designed for various underwater tasks. This initiative highlights the Navy’s commitment to bolstering India’s defense innovation ecosystem through programs like iDEX. The UWROVs, including the flagship Jalasimha, offer advanced capabilities at lower costs, reducing reliance on foreign technology and enhancing defense preparedness. With the global underwater robotics market poised for growth, this venture underscores India’s “Make in India” ethos and positions the nation as a potential leader in advanced defense technologies.
