HAL to Integrate Kaveri Afterburner with LCA Tejas Aircraft
The Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) has appointed Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to integrate the Kaveri Derivative Engine with afterburner into the LCA Tejas, marking a significant advancement in India’s indigenous aero engine program. This engine, capable of generating 71 kN of thrust, aims to reduce reliance on imported engines for fighter aircraft. The Indian Air Force’s acceptance of the LCA Tejas as a test bed for this engine signals confidence in the indigenous development capabilities of GTRE. Successful integration and testing will strengthen India’s self-reliance in military aviation propulsion, laying the groundwork for future advanced combat aircraft programs.
